I'm Ani, and I'm obsessed with data.

I'm Head of Portfolio Intelligence at Standard Metrics, where I help venture and private equity firms answer the questions their data should be able to answer: Which companies are actually performing? Where should capital go next? What patterns predict success or failure?

I work at the intersection of Finance, Data, and Investment teams. Finance owns the data and validates its accuracy. Investment teams need it to make decisions. As a data expert, I advise on what data to collect, how to structure it, and how to surface the insights that drive those decisions. I build the infrastructure that connects these teams, then work directly with GPs to put that data to use - informing capital allocation, spotting risks early, and separating signal from noise across the portfolio.

Clean data matters. What you do with it matters more.

Head of Portfolio Intelligence

Standard Metrics / Remote Jan 2026 – Present

Building AI-native services and a benchmarking product that helps investors identify breakout companies. Focused on the data infrastructure and analytical tools that make performance comparison possible at scale.

VP of Portfolio Analytics

Battery Ventures / Boston, MA Feb 2024 – Jan 2026

Like most firms at the time, Battery's portfolio data lived in systems built for compliance and reporting - not for investment decision-making. Investors tracked performance in spreadsheets because they needed flexibility the systems couldn't provide. Comparing companies across the portfolio meant manual work, and spotting trends required piecing together data from multiple sources.

I built the infrastructure that changed that - standardized metric definitions across the portfolio, remapped historical data to enable apples-to-apples comparisons, and created systems that gave the investment team direct visibility into performance. They could run cohort analysis, track trends across vintages, and understand portfolio health without rebuilding spreadsheets every quarter.

Finance Technology Lead

Y Combinator / Remote Jan 2020 – Feb 2024

I reengineered finance workflows, built cloud-based data infrastructure, and delivered self-service analytics that let partners benchmark performance across 1,000+ portfolio companies without waiting for reports.

Manager

Deloitte Investments / New York 2015 – 2019

Moved into technology M&A, evaluating startup acquisition targets and building post-acquisition integration plans. The work revealed a consistent gap: established companies had sophisticated data infrastructure. Most startups and their investors didn't.

Sr. Consultant

Deloitte Consulting / Atlanta 2010 – 2015

Advised Fortune 100 clients on operations, financial systems, and large-scale process improvement across a decade at Deloitte.

How we built the Standard Metrics "2025 Year in Review" Private Market Report
I've been chasing the analysis Standard Metrics published today for six years. The data to make it real just wasn't there. Portfolio company financials lived in Excel, siloed across systems, with sample sizes too small to draw real conclusions. I became a self-taught data engineer out of necessity at Y Combinator and Battery Ventures, and still couldn't run the cuts I wanted. That changed at Standard Metrics. Anonymized data from 10,000+ private companies across every revenue segment from pre-revenue to $100M+. Actual board-quality financials. Refreshed quarterly.

Private Market Report: 2025 Year in Review
Everyone assumes AI companies are growing faster. They are. But the story splits cleanly at $20M in annualized revenue. Below $20M, AI companies pulled away dramatically in 2025, finishing the year with a 35 percentage point gap over non-AI peers. Above $20M? The median AI company looks like any other company at the same scale. The top decile tells a completely different story, and it's the one investors are actually pricing. The report digs into these questions, plus where growth is recovering (and where it isn't), and how S&M and R&D spend correlate with growth. Check out our 2025 Year in Review, based on ~10,000 venture-backed startups on Standard Metrics.
